New direction after DVB Bank
Wolfgang Driese (left), chairman of DVB Bank, with his wife, Heide, and Riaz Khan
Riaz’ mission when he joined the Bank in Rotterdam twelve years ago was to set up and establish a shipping research department, which has been used as a platform to steer the Bank’s shipping portfolio. Since that time, his Research & Strategic Planning (RASP) team has earned five awards from Lloyd’s Shipping Economist, as well as receiving the Marine Money Award for excellence. Riaz also served as a voting panel member of DVB’s Shipping related investment fund SIIM (Shipping Investment Intermodal Management) whose current fleet totals about 80 vessels with an aggregate shipping investment portfolio of US$1.1 billion.
Before joining DVB in 2001, Riaz worked independently for ten years in Sale & Purchase and Competitive Chartering out of Geneva. Since starting his shipping career in 1971 with a shipowner, Riaz has been involved in a wide range of shipping sectors including tanker and dry bulk covering chartering, operating vessels, and as a board level representative, with JV partners involving a container liner company.
As the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Equasis, Riaz helped to support its mission to promote quality and safety in marine transport, which is at the heart of the Quality Shipping Campaign.
We at DVB Bank SE deeply appreciate the benefits brought by Riaz’ ability to dove-tail his own industry experience with the Bank’s lending activities in Shipping Finance.
DVB will continue to benefit from the solid base that Riaz has built to steer our way through a highly-cyclical, and currently volatile, shipping marketplace.
Riaz’ future plans include further development of his company, Tavlon Commercial Enterprises SA.
DVB wishes Riaz ongoing success in all his future endeavours!
